AstraZeneca said Tuesday it has reached an agreement with Pfizer over a $1 billion (£1 billion) settlement with generic drug maker AstraZeneca, in a rare instance where the deal has been challenged by rival drugmakers.
The agreement, reached by a coalition of drug makers and AstraZeneca, is a rare step in a complex global healthcare industry that is expected to be dominated by big pharma.
AstraZeneca has said it was seeking to settle the dispute on the grounds that the deal had not been made on a "fraudulent and deceptive basis".
Pfizer said that it would appeal the agreement, and the agreement would be finalized by the end of the year.
Pfizer was a subsidiary of AstraZeneca that has a separate agreement with Teva and Mylan that would see it pay down the amount of cash it will have to pay to settle the case over generic drugs for a period of time.
